Vietnam is one of the countries in the world with a large population. According to statistics from last year, the country is in fifteenth place with a population of 96 million. The capital is Hanoi and this city has a great history that has brought with it countless myths and legends. This is all reflected in the cities, nature and traditions of Vietnam, the country is also known as the Rising Dragon.

The inhabitants are very hospitable and have delicious typical Vietnamese dishes, one of the most popular is the dish Pho. The country borders on neighboring countries: China, Laos and Combodia. And is located further on the South China Sea. The money with which you can pay is the Vietnamese Dong. A trip by plane to Vietnam takes more than 14 hours with a stopover. But it’s definitely worth it, what are the really big sights that every tourist should see?

The tunnels of Cu Chi

One of the most visited sights and popular because of the role it played in the Vietnam War is the Cu Chi Tunnels, you may have seen it in a war movie. The tunnels are located about fifty kilometers from the largest city in Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City. The tunnel is no less than 230 kilometers long and runs almost through the entire country. During the war, the Vietnamese devised a clever tactic by taking shelter in these tunnels. The Americans did not know what to do and could not find the Vietnamese at the time, but these tunnels were destroyed by bombardments. The tunnels can still be seen today and you can even crawl through them as a tourist to experience the real feeling of the past. The tunnels had all kinds of roads with rooms and storage places, sleeping places, kitchens, schools. It can be seen as a gigantic underground city. Perhaps a tip to first watch a Vietnamese war film, before you dive into the tunnels, this way you have exactly what happened in these tunnels.

Halong Bay

Another must see in Vietnam is a magical place called Halong Bay. It is a beautiful nature reserve on the water with mega rocks that stick out of the water meters up. With a beautiful boat you go along all the rocks and beaches and you enjoy pure nature and peaceful surroundings. The history of this place tells another war story where the Vietnamese were able to stop the Chinese because of the waterways that create a gigantic water maze. This bay is a World Heritage Site. Do you like to seek peace and see pure nature, then this is definitely a place that you should not miss on your trip to Vietnam!

Hoi An

A port city that has been well preserved since history is the city of Hoi An. A popular city among backpackers with many attractions, such as the Quan Cong Temple. It is a great cultural heritage with old buildings with small details and a car-free center. An experience not to be missed are the bicycle or boat trips to small villages around the city, giving you the ultimate experience of the culture of Vietnam. From Buddhas to temples, old bridges and various products that are typically made in the style of centuries ago.

Arrange your visa

Are you planning to travel to Vietnam soon? Then it is important to arrange your visa. Applying for a Vietnam e-visa can easily be done well in advance of your departure, or even just before. It has recently become possible to apply for this visa completely online, so that you do not have to go to a specific agency. A growing number of tourists from the Netherlands who are backpacking to Asia and therefore need a visa, have therefore made it easy to apply for an e-visa. In addition, there is also the Vietnam visa on arrival, this is a letter confirming that you can buy a stamp on arrival. Read carefully about the possibilities and see what the best choice is for you.
